On the evening of February 11, 2026, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in China hosted a reception in Beijing to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Kuwait’s National Day and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and the People’s Republic of China. At the reception, Jasem Ibrahem Al-Najem, the Ambassador of Kuwait to China, presented honorary certificates to Lin Fengmin and Wu Bingbing from the Department of Arabic Language and Cultures, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University, in recognition of their contributions to the friendly relationship between China and Kuwait. Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, diplomatic envoys of various countries to China, and Chinese guests from various sectors attended the reception and witnessed the award ceremony.

Professor Lin Fengmin currently serves as President of the Arabic Literature Research Branch of the Chinese Foreign Literature Association, Vice President of its Oriental Literature Research Branch, Deputy Director of the Research Center of Oriental Literature, Peking University (a Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education), Director of the Institute of Arab-Islamic Studies, Deputy Director of Center for African Studies, and Deputy Director of Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Peking University. His major monographs include Singing for Love: A Study of the Kuwaiti Woman Poet Suad Al-Sabah, Modern Arabic Literature in Cultural Transformation, A Comparative Study of Chinese and Arabic Literature, The Tendency of Othering in Oriental Literary and Artistic Creation, Daily Talks on the Arabian Nights, and Mahfouz: A Giant of Arabic Literature. He has translated four poetry collections by Suad Al-Sabah, namely Woman Without Shores, Poems of Love, A Call to the Homeland, and The Last Sword, as well as other Arabic poetry collections and novels such as Commentaries on the Mu’allaqat, The Book of the Emir: Paths of the Gate of Iron, and The Bridge of Daughters.

Associate Professor Wu Bingbing serves as Head of the Department of Arabic Language and Cultures, School of Foreign Languages, Peking University, Director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Peking University, Senior Research Fellow of the Institute for International and Strategic Studies at Peking University, and State of Qatar Chair Professor in Middle Eastern Studies at Peking University. He is the author of The Rise of Shiʿi Modern Islamism and dozens of academic papers.
Honorary Certificate Awarded to Professor Lin Fengmin
Kuwait was the first Gulf Arab state to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China and the first country in the Middle East to sign Belt and Road cooperation documents with China. Over the 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Kuwait have achieved fruitful results in political, economic, cultural, and other fields, and their friendship has grown ever stronger with the passage of time. The honour conferred on the two scholars is a vivid example of how the Department of Arabic Language and Cultures, the School of Foreign Languages, Peking University, leverages its disciplinary strengths to serve national strategies and promote friendly exchanges between China and Arab states.
